Listening Heart

A Cardinal said recently that the aim of education was to develop a "listening heart."  I don't think some seminaries got the memo, or else are not into education.  Not a few of the newly ordained are pretty closed up when it comes to listening to the laity, or "the flock" as laity are called.  Many newly ordained have a message to tell you and they are not into listening to your opinion or experience based upon real life.

  1. I don't think that the newly ordained can be blamed. They
are taught what the bishops want them to be taught. Actually
some of them learn after ordination and become real people
who can listen. Take for example, gay and lesbian issues.
How can the seminarians avoid homophobia when they see
that gays have been purged from their midst. So they come out homophobic but they soon learn to be careful
in their preaching because the pews are full of people who
have gays and lesbians in their extended families. So they
find out what life is really like. Unlike the Paulists who have seen life before ordination.
