Corporate Gay
One of the benefits to the gay and lesbian community from the recent Supreme Court decision is that big institutions, such as corporate structures, are now trying to be more open and supportive to gay employees. It would seem incongruous that a corporation that is trying to sell something to "everyone" would at the same time discriminate against some of the same people inside the corporate structure. But I guess this has been so. Even my church, a few bishops, are trying to be more open to welcoming gay and lesbian people, no matter their domestic life. For that matter, my church has not turned away from married couples who have sex but don't want to have children. The church may not approve, but neither does it publicly condemn. There is room for all. That is why we call ourselves, "Catholic." Sometimes we forget. It seems to be taking the secular Supreme Court to nudge us along. These open and inviting bishops would not have written the pastoral statements that are coming out, if the Court had ruled in Judge Robert's favor.

If a marriage isn''t between a man an woman what does anything mean? Am I a bigot if I believe in anything?
ReplyDeleteBigot was probably too harsh. But I am aware of some who have a prejudice that hides behind church teaching.
DeleteMy church says it is a man and a woman to make a sacrament. Government has a broader definition for a legal marriage with all the government benefits. Tow different worlds.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely misleading people, Father. The Catholic Church teaches that a valid marriage is between a man and a woman, whether it is sacramental or not. A marriage is sacramental if it is a valid marriage between two baptized Christians. Non-Christian or mixed marriages can be valid natural marriages which the Church upholds, but simply are not sacramental because the couple are not in Christ together. A union between two people of the same sex is never valid as a marriage. It is not the same kind of relationship as a marriage. Your writings on this topic suggest you are not aware of the Catholic and Biblical teaching on what constitutes natural marriage. As Christians, we cannot follow the newspeak of those who abuse the word "marriage" to mean something revolutionarily new and different.
DeleteI agree, but if you drop the word "marriage" from the legal, not sacramental world, some court will try to refuse legal rights. I prefer a different naming but the word Marriage has become political.
DeleteI worked for a large corporation. My husband had worked for a very large CONSERVATIVE corporation. My husband & I both witnessed homosexual employees being promoted and treated fairly. This was in the 70"s. I don't
ReplyDeletethink that there has been any increase in discrimination
since then. Just my observation.
This is a refreshing piece of news, but at the same time your instance was about advancement. This Supreme Court was about legal rights of couples.
DeleteI am confused as to why you are a priest if you have no interest in the salvation of souls. Why also do you call yourself Catholic while representing Church teachings as something they are not? We will most certainly pray for you, that God will turn your heart back to Him. Popularity in this life feels nice, and speaking the Truth is hard, but it is neither loving nor merciful to lead souls astray.
