Self-improvement is not a good goal. Self-annihilation is what we need. The self is all about the self. It is like a bad apple. You cannot make a bad apple better. It is like an alcoholic saying they want to drink less, drink better. No go. If we are going to be transformed then it is going to be God's work and not ours. Your power is only good for self-fixing and that won't do. You tried it and failed. Powerless. Ask God to show you what needs fixing, and while you are at it, surrender your life to God. Then be patient, humble, listening, useful to others. The best of you is buried inside the worst of you. God will crack you open in time.
