The Wow

If you pursue the interior journey of contemplative prayer, you will come upon your own nothingness soon enough.  Well, who wants that!  So then we skip the interior journey and pursue the secular journey with gusto and enthusiasm.  Our refrigerator is too small, too loud, too big, built wrong on the insides.  Get rid of it and buy a new one.  Seems reasonable.  You get the new one installed and you soon get a Wow moment.  It is just right.  It fills you up.  But in a little while, it just becomes, well, a refrigerator.  The wow loses its luster.  You buy something else and so the cycle of wow and ordinariness goes on.  But in the spiritual pursuit, you start with seemingly not much or an awareness of your faults, your pettiness, your smallness, and yes, then your nothingness.  But then comes the wow!  And it will never more be ordinarily.  This wow is the discovery of your treasured self, hidden within nothingness.
