Contemplative Prayer is to help us to get to the deep root within that fosters and strengthens a religious commitment. Someone might say, “I am in Recovery.” Well, that is a commitment, but many drop out. Why? No commitment deep enough, spiritual, to hold them to their commitment. No meditation. I am a Catholic. Any reform that simply changes the rules and practices, or rearranges institutional structures will not hold me. Many people dropped out when all that took place. A contemplative life is what will hold me to being a Catholic. Why? Because it is not about feeling good, which would be all about me in a subtle way. Some people like a mass to be a certain way or language because it makes them feel good. It is not about feeling good in recovery or in church. It is about deep inner change. This will hold our commitment.
