Two people are sitting in a meeting or group gathering of some sort. Someone else is talking. One of them hears the voice of the speaker. The other listens. That is a big difference. Hearing with the ears might give you some information but if your mind is “elsewhere” then the info has no place to nest. Or you might nest the information yet not be changed in any way by it. When one listens it is with the heart. They make use of what they hear. No judgment because when the heart listens it is for the listener to be open to growth, change, challenge by what they hear. I can hear a sermon and leave unchanged or I can listen and be touched deeply enough to challenge myself to grow. I try to read spiritual literature the same way.
