Baptism

 Baptism, like Recovery is dying to an old way of life and rising up to a new way of life.  It is spiritual, that is, you did not baptize yourself or get yourself sober.  As we get toward the end of the Easter Season, I reflect on my own baptism as a baby.  I received the Grace or Power.  If I am going to mature, then I must get in touch actively with that Grace or Power.  Lots of people got baptized and went on to live miserable lives for themself and others.  So how does one live this “Risen” life?  Some tips:  be of service to others, be prayerful, humble, kind, selfless, that is, life is not all about me.  If you are still falling into an old way of a miserable life, then you are turning your back on Grace and Power.  Baptism and Recovery are not events that happened in the past moment of time, like the date of your last drink or date on baptismal certificate.  It is an everyday work to stay risen.
