If God is self-emptying, as in creation, pouring the divine self out, how is anyone to know this, if it is so, because humans cannot know God? God is beyond our small brains. So what to do? Become human. So God becomes human as many believe, so that we can experience the human, in this case, Jesus of Nazareth, pouring himself out, surrendering, all that divine omnipotence, to die on a cross. Would people then change and become more self-giving? Seems not. Jesus died pretty much alone on that cross. What happened? Well, God became human, but this was not convenient for us, because we did not want to change, to become less selfish, less fearful, less competitive. I suspect that a lot of believers prefer their God to remain unknown. They don’t want to change. So they just make up a God that is convenient.
