When I was first ordained I worked in a parish in Houston, Texas, Aldine, to be more specific. I was pretty clueless about being a priest, but ignorant of even that truth. So I did a lot of stuff, trying this and that. I woke up one morning recently and realized that I am not just an aging priest, but that I have left lasting memories, good ones, in the minds of many young people in that parish. They are now parents of grown children and maybe even Grand-Parents by now. But they remember my name and something I did. Even I don’t remember stuff I did, but they do. Grace is everywhere. Never underestimate the impact you are having on someone that is unforgettable and good.
