Growth

Some of us feel that there is growth if we have "more."  If I have more of whatever than you have, am I not growing better than you?  Growth seems to be measured in comparisons with others.  Thus it has to be something concrete.  My house is bigger than yours.  We do not think of loss as growth.  Loss means less, right?  Maybe not.  Sometimes less or even nothing is more.  This wisdom does not come easily.  It is surely the narrow road.  I remember when I could drink more than other people.  Growth in capacity.  Until I could not drink at all.  Loser.  Failure.  Bum.  Then the light came in the darkness.  Loss became gain.  Growth is funny that way, except it was not so funny at the crossroads into a new life.  Sure beats oblivion.
