Ignoring The Pope

A lot of people ignore the pope about birth control and they get called out by many of the hierarchy.  But a lot of people ignore the pope about wealth, vanity and power.  The hierarchy seems to be a bit more subdued on this disobedience.  Why?  Jesus never said anything about birth control.  He had more to say about vanity and wealth and power.  Help me out here.

  1. We never heard much about birth control from the pulpit, or from Catholic education. We heard more about vanity wealth and power from the pulpit and the Catholic schools. If you are referring to prominent Catholic politicians being called out for supporting abortion, that is a different matter. Nancy Pelosi for example has never been called out for her greed, power and vanity!

  2. Seems most of the clergy, especially the hierarchy, ignore a lot of what Jesus said, (even as they themselves have interpreted His words) and focus on the rules created around the institution of the church.
They should study Matthew 5 - 7, and put their efforts there. We all should.
The example I see in much of church leadership is to pursue power, control, wealth, greed and vanity. and then to mask it with a lot of pseudo- theological babble.
Maybe they should forget the motes and work on the beams.
    - and let the little child lead them...
    IMHO

  3. Wonder which church the first commenter went to. I heard plenty about birth control from pulpit and Catholic education. Fortunately a wise priest, Vatican II and conscience helped me past that struggle.

  4. Why does the hierarchy of the church spend so much time talking about sex and birth control? Do they feel they are missing something? Or do they know too much about it. People have consciences and they try to follow their own. Thank you for telling us that Jesus did not say anything about birth control. The word control is what the heirarchy of the church wants. So much of what they say to us the laity is about control. God gave us a conscience and free will and the Ten Commandments. Nancy Pelosi is not a part of the clergy. She is a politician who may be following what some of the hierarchy are doing themselves. Makes it so difficult to be a member of the church but not difficult to be a follower of Christ.
