What if you are feeling miserable with one dark emotion or another, do you try to escape with drink, sex, jog, gym, shop, take a trip, TV or internet? It seems to me, that you might escape for the moment, that is get away from the misery. But the misery remains. It does not go away. So eventually you come back to your pre-escape routine. The misery awaits you. So rather than you running away, why not get into some spiritual practice that accepts the misery, sits with it, and then just let it go by not paying attention to it. You might find a peacefulness in spite of the outsides seeming to stay the same. I try to work on changing me which is not an escape. It can be a coming home to my best self.
