John the Baptist was drawn to the desert. It is a place even now without electricity, gas stations, but does have lots of silence and solitude. Try it in the dark. Now that can be scary. But Prayer needs a desert experience with the same things, silence, solitude, no electrical things turned on. Why? God said to John and to others that God is coming to us, but through the desert. We are supposed to make it straight pathed for God. So if you cannot find God or feel abandoned, try desert type meditation. And patience.
