In the monastic life there is something called “Statio.” It is referrred to as a sacred stop. The monks line up two by two and stand still for a few minutes, before processing into the chapel for choir. It is meant to slow us down, to put a stop between one task and another. It is a good idea for all of us I think to do Statio here and there each day. Put down cell phone and other internet devices, do no work, accomplish no task for maybe three minutes. Just stop and be. Does it drive you crazy? Then what it is doing is revealing the craziness of your life that is buried beneath your pace of one thing after the other. Would that teachers would do it in schools, so that students are taught the value of Statio, being simply with oneself.
